4 Decades of Practice
Gastroenterologist since 1985
Every Procedure, Personally
No fellows. No hand-offs. Ever.
Katy's Own GI Doctor
Longtime resident, community doctor
Your Gastroenterologist. Not a Rotating Provider.
Dr. James Maher is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has practiced medicine since 1985. He performs every consultation, every procedure, and every results discussion himself. When you become his patient, you stay his patient.
At a time when many GI practices cycle patients through a roster of rotating providers, Dr. Maher chose a different model. One doctor who knows your history. One doctor who performs your colonoscopy. One doctor who sits down with you afterward and explains exactly what he found.
This is not a tagline. It is how his practice operates every day, and it is the reason patients drive past larger clinics to see him.

That is why every consultation includes an unhurried conversation about what is happening, why, and what comes next. He explains results in plain language, not medical jargon, and discusses every treatment option — not just the one he would choose.
You will never leave his office wondering what just happened. Clarity is not optional. It is the standard.
How Dr. Maher Came to Katy
Before Katy, Dr. Maher spent twenty-five years in private gastroenterology practice in the New Orleans area. When Hurricane Katrina devastated the region in 2005, he and his family relocated to Texas.
He chose Katy for its strong community, excellent schools, and growing need for experienced gastroenterology care. What started as a fresh start became a permanent home. Dr. Maher has now served the Katy and West Houston communities for nearly two decades, building the kind of lasting patient relationships that define his practice.
His office is located at 19255 Park Row, directly across from Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.
Beyond the Office
Dr. Maher and his wife are longtime Katy residents. They have six children and four grandchildren. Outside the office, he enjoys fishing, going to the movies, and reading.
The Katy community is not just where Dr. Maher works — it is where he and his family have built their lives over the past two decades. The patients he sees in the office are often his neighbors, friends of his children, and members of the same community he chose to call home.
